Implantable Lens to Be Sold in China

February 29, 2008

Staar Surgical has received approval from China’s State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) to market the Staar Visian toric implantable collamer lens (ICL) for the treatment of nearsightedness and astigmatism.

The SFDA also granted approval for Staar’s ICL to correct farsightedness.

Barry Caldwell, Staar’s president and CEO, said the SFDA approved the Visian Myopic ICL in July 2006. It’s foldable design allows an incision up to 50 percent smaller than competing technology.
