West Nile Vaccine Tested in Company’s First Clinical Trial

June 24, 2008

Hawaii Biotech has initiated a Phase I clinical trial with its West Nile vaccine candidate. The study is the first clinical trial for the company.

West Nile Virus is spread by exposure to infected mosquitoes and can lead to fatal encephalitis.

The candidate is a recombinant sub-unit vaccine developed to induce protective immunity in recipients. Conducted in Honolulu, the study will recruit volunteers for four treatment groups. The company said it expects results within one year.
