Sanofi-Aventis Discontinues 14 Drugs in Clinical Trials

Development of 14 Sanofi-Aventis drugs already in clinical trials is being shut down following a company review of its R&D portfolio. Four drugs in Phase III trials, four in Phase II and six in Phase I will be discontinued, the company says in its quarterly financial statement. Sanofi says the resources freed by stopping development of the drugs will be spent on more promising projects and external R&D alliances.
