Drug for Pain ‘Significantly Disliked’ in Excess Doses, Company Says
A Phase II study testing Acura Pharmaceuticals and King Pharmaceuticals’ Acurox tablets for pain treatment showed positive outcomes. The companies are developing the drug to treat moderate-to-severe pain with minimal potential for the drug to be abused to help deter prescription drug abuse among people who take similar drugs for pain management. Acurox tablets contain a composition of oxycodone HCl, niacin and essential functional inactive ingredients. The randomized, double-blind assessment of the abuse liability potential evaluated 30 subjects with a history of opioid abuse. Patients “significantly disliked” the drug compared with oxycodone HCl tablets alone when excess doses were swallowed, Acura says. |
