FDA Tightens Overdose Warnings for Propoxyphene Pain Drugs
The FDA is requiring manufacturers of Darvon, Darvocet and other propoxyphene-containing drugs to strengthen the labeling information on the drugs’ overdose risk, including the boxed warning. The actions were taken because of data that linked medications that contain propoxyphene and fatal overdoses, the agency says in a statement. The FDA also recently denied a 2006 citizen petition from Public Citizen requesting a phased withdrawal of propoxyphene.
