Watson Says FDA May Approve Generic Toprol-Xl Soon
Watson Pharmaceuticals, which reported a 9 percent increase in second-quarter sales compared with the same quarter last year, may win approval soon for certain generic versions of AstraZeneca’s beta-blocker Toprol-XL hypertension drug. Approval of generic Toprol-XL (metoprolol succinate) in 25- and 50-mg strengths may come first, and the company expects FDA approval for the 100- and 200-mg versions of the drug will be granted later this year, Paul Bisaro, Watson’s president and CEO, said on a conference call last week.
