Asian Countries Looking to European HTA Models to Contain Medtech Costs
As Taiwan and South Korea apply health technology assessment (HTA) to sift out the costs versus benefits of new drugs and medical devices, other Asian countries, such as China, are looking at ways to adopt such cost-cutting programs, a pair of recent industry surveys suggests. Asia is moving rapidly to develop HTA systems — compared with emerging markets in Latin America and the Middle East — and Europe, with more than 30 HTA agencies, could serve as a source of ready-made HTA templates.
