Gilead’s Blockbuster HIV Drug Truvada Gets First-Ever Preventive Indication
The FDA has green-lighted a new indication for Gilead’s Truvada as the first pill to help prevent HIV infection in high-risk patients. The approval comes with a risk evaluation and mitigation strategy (REMS) to lower the risk of developing drug-resistant HIV-1 variants if HIV-negative patients interrupt their dosing and then contract the virus.
