Patent Overhaul Affecting Drugmakers Clears Senate, Heads to President’s Desk

The Senate voted 89-9 to pass H.R. 1249, which makes several changes to U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) procedures for issuing patents and handling disputes — an overhaul supported by PhRMA and the Biotechnology Industry Organization, but opposed by the Generic Pharmaceutical Association (GPhA).
