Portable Oxygen System Earns CE Mark
OxySure’s Model 615 portable oxygen device has been granted CE Mark approval, the Frisco, Texas, devicemaker said Wednesday.
The over-the-counter oxygen supply system, which already has FDA clearance, allows lay rescuers to deliver oxygen to a person needing it until professional responders arrive. The 615 model can be used in a range of situations, from heart attacks to asthma, heat exhaustion and diabetes.
The device consists of a reusable outer housing, a cartridge and a mask that resembles an airliner’s oxygen mask. With the turn of a knob, two powders merge via an accelerant in an exothermic, catalytic reaction resulting in oxygen. Once the oxygen starts flowing — at 6 liters per minute for at least 15 minutes per cartridge — the bag inflates.
OxySure said it expects to launch Model 615 in European markets soon. — Lena Freund
