Obama Proposal Would Grant FDA $5.1B
Republicans on the Hill have blasted the White House’s fiscal year 2017 budget, which would give the FDA about $5.1 billion, roughly $358 million more than what the agency received last year.
Of the $5.1 billion, the president is asking for $2.7 billion from Congress, with the remainder coming from user fees. User fees for prescription drugs would increase from about $851 million to $866 million. Those for generic drugs would rise from $318 million to $324 million, while fees for biosimilars would remain funded at the same level of $22 million.
Under the budget proposal, CDER would receive $491 million, the same as last year, and CBER would receive $215 million, also the same as what was enacted.
