Abuse-Deterrent Opioid Bill Skates Through E&C Subcommittee
A House Energy and Commerce subcommittee unanimously passed a bill that aims to facilitate the development of abuse-deterrent opioids.
The “Opioid Review Modernization Act,” HR 4976, is sponsored by Rep. Sean Maloney (D-N.Y.) and would require the FDA to work closely with its advisory committees to evaluate drugs without abuse-deterrent properties. There would be an option for a product to bypass these committees and receive an expedited approval pathway if it has abuse-deterrent properties.
The bill now moves on to the full committee for review.
