The FDA is planning studies on whether drugmakers are effectively conveying the risks associated with a drug when benefit claims about the drug are made online in character-space-limited communications.
The research is designed to determine whether a link to the risk information is sufficient and what consumers are looking for when turning to the internet for drug information, according to a Federal Register notice.
What a consumer is looking for can affect what information they pay attention to and what kind of information they find, and as a result the studies will review whether participants are instructed to browse the information or to search for specific information.
