Bill With Bipartisan Support Would Repeal Device Tax
January 20, 2017
Tax Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-Minn.) has reintroduced legislation that would permanently repeal the 2.3 percent medical device tax under the Affordable Care Act.
The bill, called the Protect Medical Innovation Act, which Paulsen originally introduced in 2013 and again in 2015, would make permanent a two-year suspension of the tax. It has bipartisan support with more than 200 cosponsors and has been praised by President Elect Donald Trump.
Paulsen said in a statement that the suspension already has created jobs and increased medical technology investment. He said a permanent repeal should be a “top priority” for Congress. — Jeff Kinney
