HHS OIG Audit Will Analyze Drug Monitoring Programs Receiving Federal Funds
December 20, 2017
The HHS Office of Inspector General plans to audit state prescription drug monitoring programs that use federal funds.
The audit will identify specific actions state agencies have taken to enhance their monitoring programs using federal money. HHS provides funding to states to prevent opioid abuse through the CDC and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
The audits will specifically target states with high numbers of overdose deaths, a major increase in overdose mortality rates, or that received federal funding to enhance their monitoring programs.
