The FDA granted 510(k) clearance to Avanos Medical’s ON-Q Bolus pump, a drug infusion device that helps patients with pain management after surgery without using opioids.
The pump uses a multimodal approach to pain management to give more than three days of predictable pain relief, using a catheter to continuously release numbing medicine near a patient’s surgical incision.
Because the device does not use opioids, patients are not subjected to the potential side effects of narcotics, such as grogginess, nausea and constipation.
