The FDA has granted Swedish devicemaker NuvoAir 510(k) clearance for its Air Next wireless spirometer, a device used to measure the amount of air inhaled and exhaled by the lungs.
Users blow into a single-use disposable turbine connected to the small, portable device, and the speed of its spinning rotor is transferred as data via Bluetooth to the Air Next’s iOS/Android smartphone app.
The device is intended for use at home by patients with lung conditions like asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and cystic fibrosis.
