Cleveland Clinics’ Patient-Specific Airway Stents Cleared
Cleveland Clinic has received FDA 510(k) clearance for its customized airway stents, which are offered in patient-specific shapes and sizes for a tailored fit.
The patient-specific stents are designed using CT scans and 3D visualization software, then created using a 3D printer and injected with medical-grade silicone.
The company said its airway stents “have the potential to be more tolerable than traditional silicone stents,” which may have to be frequently changed or cleaned because of a poor fit.
