European Commission Proposes MDR Delay
The European Commission has adopted a proposal to delay implementation of the landmark Medical Devices Regulation (MDR) by one year in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The measure still requires the backing of the European Parliament and EU member states before it goes into effect. If approved, as expected, implementation of the MDR would be delayed until May 26, 2021.
Potential market disruptions of essential medical devices “must and will be avoided,” said EC Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Stella Kyriakides.
