The FDA has granted a ventilator developed by NASA an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for its use in treating COVID-19 patients.
The NASA Ventilator Intervention Technology Accessible Locally (VITAL) was designed specifically for patients with severe COVID-19 infections.
The device uses components that are not in the medical device supply chain, so it will not impact the manufacturing of existing ventilators, the FDA said.
