Minnesota-based devicemaker Somnetics has received FDA marketing clearance to distribute its non-invasive ventilators for treatment of COVID-19 patients.
Often used for treating sleep apnea, the bilevel positive airway pressure (BiPAP) machines deliver pressurized air through a mask to the patient's airways.
BiPAP devices place less stress on patients and they don’t require sedation or other intubation drugs in short supply during the pandemic.
