Imperial College London is launching human trials of its COVID-19 vaccine candidate with $56.5 million in funding from the UK government and philanthropic donations.
The trial will be the first of a new self-amplifying RNA technology that uses the host cells to produce antigens that stimulate immunity.
More than 300 healthy participants will receive two doses of the vaccine in the coming weeks. The college anticipates starting larger phase 3 trails later this year.
