The University of Oxford has begun a phase 3 trial of its COVID-19 vaccine in Brazil, making it the first phase 3 trial of its kind in Latin America.
The trial, in partnership with AstraZeneca, will enroll 5,000 volunteers. The vaccine candidate, AZD1222, is also in phase 2/3 trials in the UK and South Africa.
Brazil’s Ministry of Health has signed an agreement with AstraZeneca for local production of the vaccine.
