Foundation Calls for $75 Billion to Expand COVID-19 Testing
July 24, 2020
The Rockefeller Foundation is calling for $75 billion in federal funding to ramp up COVID-19 testing and to accelerate test development and production.
The foundation believes the U.S. needs to expand testing to 30 million tests per week by October and says it’s urgent to accelerate the introduction of “faster, cheaper, point-of-care screening tests.”
Congress included $25 billion for testing in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, but another $75 billion is needed as soon as possible to widen access to testing, the foundation said. It is contributing $50 million toward the effort.
