The European Commission reached its first COVID-19 vaccine supply deal Friday, securing up to 400 million doses of AstraZeneca’s AZD1222.
Under the agreement, the commission will purchase 300 million doses of the vaccine on behalf of European Union member states, with an option to purchase 100 million more. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The commission is also negotiating with Johnson & Johnson and Sanofi-GlaxoSmithKline for similar vaccine supply deals.
