Boston Scientific has signed an investment deal with Farapulse that includes an option to purchase the California-based developer of a pulsed field ablation (PFA) system.
The PFA system, which consists of a sheath, generator and catheters, is being developed for the treatment of atrial fibrillation and other cardiac arrhythmias.
The system is intended to ablate heart tissue using a therapeutic electric field instead of thermal energy sources, such as cryoablation or radiofrequency ablation. Farapulse is currently seeking regulatory approval for the device in the U.S.
