Quidel has announced that it has opened a new manufacturing facility in Carlsbad, Calif., dedicated to mass-producing the company’s QuickVue diagnostic tests, including its rapid COVID-19 test.
The facility will become the company’s highest-volume production plant and will begin manufacturing in the second half of the year. Quidel said it aims to produce 600 million QuickVue COVID-19 rapid tests annually.
The FDA granted Quidel’s rapid COVID-19 antigen test an Emergency Use Authorization in December 2020. The test delivers results in 10 minutes using nasal swab samples.
