The FDA has granted 510(k) clearance for EndoClot Plus’ EndoClot polysaccharide hemostat system.
The single-use device, which includes a starch-based powder hemostat, is applied directly to the area of gastrointestinal bleeding using a flexible endoscope to concentrate the blood and speed up clotting.
When the hemostat powder makes contact with blood or fluid in the gastrointestinal tract, a gelled matrix forms to provide a barrier that helps to further control bleeding, the company said.
