European Commission Wants Feedback on ‘Roadmap’ for Pharmaceuticals
April 7, 2021
The European Commission (EC) is seeking feedback on a “roadmap” aimed at ensuring timely access to new medicines in the EU.
The roadmap is part of a broader overhaul of the EU’s pharmaceutical legislation begun last summer and follows up on the commission’s Communication on a Pharmaceutical Strategy for Europe issued in late November.
Among other goals in its strategic plan, the commission aims to improve access to medicines, “address unmet medical needs, enable innovation, enhance supply-chain security and reduce regulatory burdens.”
The commission is inviting comments on the roadmap by April 27, but a public consultation on the strategic plan will continue through the end of this year and the revisions will be formally adopted in the commission’s pharmaceutical strategy at the end of 2022.
