Abbott Laboratories has received CE mark certification for Navitor, a transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) system, for treating aortic stenosis, a narrowing of the aortic valve.
The minimally invasive device features a fabric cuff that reduces or eliminates blood backflow around the valve frame. The blood leakage, known as paravalvular leak, is a common complication after TAVI procedures.
The device is the only self-expanding TAVI system that features leaflets and cells within the valve that help improve access to coronary arteries for future interventions, the company said.
