Eurofins has obtained FDA Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for its empowerDX, an at-home COVID-19 diagnostic test that can be used to test children age three years and up.
According to the company, it is the first to receive an EUA for an at-home nasal polymerase chain reaction test for young children. The home-collected samples must be sent to a laboratory for analysis.
The $99 test kit was launched in the third quarter of 2020 for patients age 18 and up. It can now be purchased from several vendors without a prescription, including Amazon, RiteAid, Uber’s on-demand delivery service and the Eurofins website.
