EU to Limit COVID-19 Vaccine Exports Through September
June 23, 2021
The European Union’s member nations have decided the bloc will keep monitoring and potentially limiting exports of COVID-19 vaccines until the end of September.
The EU began imposing the limits at the end of January because some vaccine manufacturers, such as AstraZeneca, were not supplying as many doses to EU members as promised in purchase agreements negotiated by the European Commission on behalf of the bloc.
The extension of the export control mechanism, which still must be formally approved, will mean that the export controls will not expire at the end of June.
