WHO Recommends Extending Use of Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 Jab to 5-11 Year Olds
The World Health Organization (WHO) has signed off on administering a reduced dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to five- to 11-year-olds.
The WHO’s recommendation, following a meeting of its Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on immunization, means the shot can now be given to young children in poorer nations participating in the COVAX vaccine-sharing program.
The advisory panel recommended a 10-microgram dose, one-third of the full 30-microgram dose for older children and adults, but did not did not make a recommendation about offering booster doses to young children.
