IPEC Releases Guide on Microplastics Use in the EU
The International Pharmaceutical Excipients Council (IPEC) has released a guide on how pharmaceutical companies should label and report on their use of microplastics when manufacturing drugs in the EU.
Drugmakers are expected to report to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) if they use microplastics in their products. They also need to provide labeled instructions for use and disposal of drug products containing microplastics.
The excipient standards group defines microplastics as any products containing polymer, whether on the particle surface or within the particle itself. The definition does not include natural and biodegradable polymers and polymers without any carbon C in their chemical structures.
