Provention Bio’s Diabetes Drug Costs $193,900 for 14-Day Treatment
Provention Bio’s Tzield (teplizumab-mzwv) will cost $13,850 per vial, the company said following the FDA approval of the drug which delays the onset of stage 3 type 1 diabetes in adults and in children eight years and older who currently have stage 2 type 1 diabetes.
Since Tzield is given through intravenous infusion once daily for 14 consecutive days, the cost adds up to $193,900 for a single course of treatment.
The company has created a patient support program called Compass where patients can ask questions and get help in navigating coverage, reimbursement and access to financial assistance.
