FDAnews Bids Farewell After 50 Years
After half a century of serving the regulatory information needs of the pharmaceutical, medical device and biologics communities, FDAnews presents the final issue of its flagship publication today.
FDAnews began coverage of the FDA with the launch of Devices & Diagnostics Letter at the end of 1974 when Congress hammered out medical device legislation that became the Medical Device Amendments of 1976 to the Federal Food, Drug & Cosmetic Act. The company later added Washington Drug Letter and several other publications to its portfolio.
Along the way, FDAnews publications — newsletters, books, webinars and conferences — have provided information and analysis on the actions of the FDA through 14 commissioners, more than 4,600 drug approvals and thousands of novel medical devices.
FDAnews has covered many FDA milestones, such as regulations for medical device quality systems management, protection of human subjects in research and tamper-resistant packaging, as well as key legislation, including the Safe Medical Devices Act, user fees for prescription drugs, medical devices, generics and biologics, the Food and Drug Administration Modernization Act, and the launch of the ClinicalTrials.gov public database of clinical research results.
The editors would like to acknowledge and collectively thank our volunteer editorial boards for their expert insights over the years and to share the following generous comments we have received from members of the current board:
- “Over the past several decades, FDANews has provided FDA stakeholders with information and, more importantly, with insights into how FDA oversight has helped shape medical advances.” Wayne Pines, Senior Director, APCO
- “I will miss FDAnews and its laser-sharp focus on all the important news of the day for those working on regulatory issues impacting the life sciences industry.” Cynthia Schnedar, Principal, ELIQUENT Life Sciences
- “When I had to learn GMP 30 years ago, FDAnews was a great help to me and many other Europeans. Then I started working with FDAnews more than 15 years ago and it has always been an enriching and professional collaboration. Thank you very much!” Thomas Peither, Founder, GMP-Verlag Peither AG
- “I am proud to have served on the editorial board and participated in webinars for FDANews. The closure of this important publication is a loss to the medical device community, which depends on up-to-date information regarding topics of importance to the industry. I will fondly remember the editorial board planning meetings, where we discussed emerging issues of interest with esteemed colleagues from different sectors of the industry, as a great way to stay on the cutting edge.” Kristin Zielinski Duggan, Partner, Hogan Lovells
FDAnews is very grateful for those kind remarks.
On behalf our Vice President/Publisher Stephanie Portnoy, myself and the editorial and production teams, we would like to thank you for your support and readership. We are grateful for the opportunity to have served you.
