PHARMA RFID ADOPTION STILL SEEKING SHOT IN THE ARM
Last week the Florida Department of Health designated SupplyScape as the first company to provide digital certificates to help companies comply with the state's progressive pharmaceutical pedigree requirement. The designation is another step towards common use of electronic pedigrees (e-pedigrees) and RFID in the pharmaceutical supply chain, but not a decisive one. While SupplyScape promotes it for e-pedigree applications, RFID technology is not the only option. Interest is high yet adoption lags, despite numerous state and FDA initiatives to encourage e-pedigrees and other track-and-trace systems.
