BOVIE MEDICAL ANNOUNCES FDA CLEARANCE TO MARKET NEW LAPAROSCOPIC INSTRUMENTS
Bovie Medical, a manufacturer and marketer of electrosurgical products, announced Oct. 12 it received FDA 510(k) clearance to market a new line of patent-pending advanced modular laparoscopic electrosurgical electrodes and a handle, aimed at the laparoscopic and arthroscopic markets.
The reusable, insulated handle -- part of Bovie's new "modular ergonomic instruments" family of products -- comes with light metallic grips, a transparent ratchet and ergonomic design, which is expected to reduce surgeon fatigue and improve tactile feel, according to the company. The handle accepts reusable tip inserts.
According to Bovie, it is estimated that the total annual worldwide market for this product line exceeds $200 million.
