Drug Representatives Object to Bill
March 18, 2005
A proposal to tighten state restrictions on drug company sales representatives was met with little support at a public hearing Thursday. In contrast, industry lobbyists and sales representatives crowded the meeting room of the Legislature's Business, Research and Economic Development Committee to protest a proposed new registry and licensing requirements. If the bill is enacted, the state would establish a new regulatory body to oversee the promotion of pharmaceuticals through direct contact with physicians, a practice also known as "detailing."
