LUPIN, KYOWA TO JOINTLY MARKET DRUGS IN JAPAN
August 9, 2005
Indian drug maker Lupin Ltd. said on Monday it had entered into an agreement with Japan's Kyowa Pharmaceutical Industry Company Ltd. to market drugs in Japan. Lupin will develop and manufacture the drugs while Kyowa will conduct the biostudies and obtain the regulatory approvals and market the drugs in Japan, it said. Generics account for about 5 percent of Japan's pharma market, but foreign companies typically face entry barriers due to the complex regulatory environment and strong patent framework, it said.
