LINCOLN PHARMA FILES PATENT FOR ANTISEPTIC DRUG
November 30, 2005
Lincoln Pharmaceuticals Ltd. said on Wednesday it has applied for a patent on its antiseptic combination of Povidone Iodine and Triclosan. Today surgeons are using Povidone Iodine as disinfectant for all purposes during a surgery. The combination drug is very effective in curbing infection for a prolonged period. Both these drugs are mild antiseptics and not acidic. Hence, the irritation caused by acidic disinfectants will be avoided with added advantage of a longer lasting impact, Lincoln Pharma said. The total antiseptic market of similar prescription drugs is huge. Of this market, Povidone Iodine has a 75% market share.
