Artes Medical. BioForm believes the patent infringement suit by Artes is without
merit, and BioForm has responded with defenses based on: 1) a breach of contract
by one of Artes' founders in the purported transfer of the patent to Artes;
2) the fact that the patent in dispute is not valid and is unenforceable due
to false statements of inventorship; and 3) that the claims in this patent do
not cover BioForm's products.
IRIS International, a manufacturer and marketer of automated IVD urinalysis
systems and medical devices used in hospitals and clinical reference laboratories
worldwide, announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the
assets of the urinalysis business segment of Quidel for an undisclosed cash
amount.
Agencourt Bioscience, a genomic sequencing company, will be sold to a California
biomedical testing company in a deal worth at least $100 million in cash. Fullerton,
Calif.-based Beckman Coulter announced that it would pay $100 million for Beverly,
Mass.-based Agencourt, a 5-year-old a genomic sequencing company with about
75 employees, in a deal that should close by the end of May.
Bio-Warm announces that it has signed an agreement to acquire a 51 percent equity
interest in Myung Shin Medical, a South Korean company engaged in the manufacturing
and marketing of medical devices, for a combination of cash and stock.
American Medical Technologies (AMT) announced that the company has entered into
a nonexclusive license agreement with KaVo Dental, a worldwide manufacturer
of dental equipment and ancillary products. KaVo was recently purchased by Danaher.
