Competitive Bidding Program May Limit Access to Devices

Devicemakers are concerned that the recently implemented Medicare competitive bidding program for durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies (DMEPOS) will limit access to their products. Ignoring requests from several stakeholders, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services implemented an interim final rule that begins a Round 1 rebid in which companies have to bid to provide DMEPOS that Medicare will then select based on the lowest price.
