Lilly Settles for $15 Million in Georgia Zyprexa Suit

Eli Lilly has paid more than $15 million to settle state and federal Medicaid claims for off-label promotion of the company’s antipsychotic drug Zyprexa in Georgia. The payment was “not a new or additional settlement” but part of the company’s January settlement with the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Lilly spokeswoman Marni Lemons said. Lilly pleaded guilty earlier this year to one misdemeanor violation of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act related to its promotion of Zyprexa (olanzapine) between September 1999 and March 2001.
