Barr to Release Generic Opana in 2012 Under Settlement

Penwest Pharmacetuicals and Endo Pharmaceuticals have reached a settlement over Barr Laboratories’ ANDA for a generic form of Opana extended-release (ER) tablets. Barr will be allowed to introduce its generic Opana ER (oxymorphone HCl) pain drug Sept. 15, 2012, according to the proposed settlement filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. The introduction date is nearly a year before the ’933 and ’456 patents on the drug expire in September 2013.
