FDA Takes Action on Pediatric Drug Shortages

As it continues to face congressional calls for more action on drug shortages, the FDA May 29 said it is allowing imports of injectables used in total parenteral nutrition (TPN). TPN drugs, used to treat premature infants and other patients unable to eat or drink by mouth, have been in “critical shortage” due to manufacturing problems at plants run by American Regent/Luitpold, a main supplier of TPN drugs that has temporarily shuttered, the FDA said.
Washington Drug Letter
