Researchers in Illinois have developed a cradle and app for smartphones that can transform a simple everyday device into a biosensor capable of detecting toxins and allergens in food. This is especially crucial given the increase in anaphylactic responses to allergens such as nuts, which resulted in the death of a student who received three EpiPen injections after ingesting peanut butter just last week.
