Amgen Expands Oncology Portfolio With $10.4 Billion Buy of Onyx

Amgen will acquire Onyx Pharmaceuticals for $10.4 billion in a deal Amgen says will boost its cancer drug portfolio. Amgen had wooed Onyx all summer, having made an initial offer of $120 per share in June, but Onyx promptly rejected it, ISI Group analyst Mark Schoenebaum said Monday. The deal appears to be the biggest pharma takeover since Gilead bought Pharmasset for $10.8 billion in 2011.
