Unsure Whether to Outsource Patient Recruitment? Use the Rule of Third

Sponsors and CROs should consider outsourcing trial recruitment to a patient recruitment organization, or PRO, if they think a third or more of their participants will need to come from external sources, an industry expert says. A Tufts University study of 12 pharma and biotech companies, released earlier this year, found that while almost all Phase II to Phase IV trials eventually met full enrollment, more than nine in 10 did so by extending their study duration, upping the time and money for sponsors.
