Steris Acquiring IMS International for $175 Million

April 1, 2014

Steris has agreed to acquire Birmingham, Ala.-based Integrated Medical Systems International, a sterile processing consulting, surgical instrument management and endoscope repair company, for $175 million.

IMS will become part of the Steris’ endoscope and surgical instrument repair specialty services business, an area the Mentor, Ohio, devicemaker has targeted for expansion, said President and CEO Walt Rosebrough.

Hospitals comprise the main customer base of Steris’ healthcare segment, and the company believes demand for surgical repair services in the U.S. is growing rapidly. IMS could add revenues of $15 million in a full fiscal year, Steris said.

The acquisition — set to close by the end of June — includes leased properties in Florida and Maryland, as well as IMS’ 15-acre Birmingham campus. — Lena Freund
